Work

I love to discover patterns in data using Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. I have experience with parsing and generation of human language, constructing classification models for huge data sets, and building user-friendly interfaces for analyzing data.

Usually, I start prototyping a solution in Python, Ruby, or Haskell. I like to drop to C or C++ to squeeze the last bit of performance out of a machine.

On April 11, 2013, I defended my PhD thesis at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.

Fun

I am an avid music lover, digging everything from The Beatles to the Beastie Boys. Like any typical Dutchman, I love casual cycling (which is very enjoyable if your country is flat). I also enjoy GPS games, indoor climbing, and an occasional hike.
